About Dr Okafor

Twenty years.
One conviction.

I trained as a counselling psychologist at University College London, completing my Professional Doctorate in 2004. Since then I have worked across NHS services — including the South London and Maudsley Trust — private practice, and academic settings, carrying out research into complex trauma and the therapeutic relationship.

I work with adults who are ready to do serious psychological work. My approach draws on psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-informed frameworks, tailored to each client's history and needs. I am direct without being prescriptive, and I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the foundation from which everything else follows.

My practice is based at consulting rooms in London Bridge. I also work with a small number of clients internationally via secure video link.

Areas of expertise

My clinical practice is focused in the following areas, developed over two decades of specialist work.

01

Complex & Developmental Trauma

Long-standing trauma responses rooted in early experience, often not adequately addressed in shorter-term models.

02

Identity & Cultural Complexity

Questions of identity, belonging, and psychological experience at the intersection of culture, race, and personal history.

03

Relationship & Attachment Patterns

Repetitive relational dynamics understood through an attachment and object relations lens.

04

Professional & Occupational Distress

Burnout, imposter syndrome, and psychological difficulties arising from high-pressure professional environments.

05

Grief, Loss & Existential Questions

Not only bereavement, but the losses of meaning, possibility, and identity that accompany major life transitions.

06

Therapy for Therapists

Personal therapy for practitioners, supervisors, and trainees — a space that understands the particular complexities of the work.

What clients say

In their words

"I've seen four therapists over the years. None of them came close to what Patricia does. She has a quality of attention I've never encountered before — nothing escapes her."
— Barrister · London · 4 years in therapy
"I'm a psychologist myself, which made finding the right therapist complicated. Patricia understood the therapeutic frame from the inside. It made all the difference."
